Providing nurse unit managers with better support and training to improve patient care in hospitals and aged care services will be the focus of a new Australian study.
The ‘Catholic Health Australia Nursing and Midwifery Empowerment’ project will explore a range of support options such as new work processes, workplace education and training, and senior staff mentoring.
Martin Laverty, CHA CEO said the study would lead to an action plan to make it easier for nurse unit managers to achieve best practice in patient care.
“Our aim is to empower nurse unit managers to achieve optimum levels of patient care in hospitals and aged care services. But to do this, we need to understand the everyday concerns and needs of this group and how they can be better supported through education and training,” he said.
The study will be completed in August and the report will be presented at the Catholic Health Australia National Conference in Adelaide. It will be made available to the public in September.
