Autonomy, working hours and processes to deal with violence and bullying are the most important job characteristics for nurses and midwives, according to recent research.
Professor Tony Scott, professorial research fellow at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research in the University of Melbourne, looked into what aspects of the job nurses and midwives valued most.
In an interview with Nursing Review, Scott discussed the findings, including that nurses would forgo a percentage of their annual income for job characteristics they deemed more important and that nurse to patient ratios were seen as less important than many areas.
