Bandage in works detects pressure ulcers

Researchers from the US are developing a new type of bandage that uses electrical currents to detect early tissue damage from pressure ulcers before the human eye can.

“What we're detecting is a change in the way electricity flows that tells us the cell membrane is starting to lose its integrity and break down,” study lead author Sarah Swisher said in an interview with Nursing Review.

In the interview, Swisher, a PhD candidate in electrical engineering and computer sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, explained how the smart bandage works and discussed ways health professionals could use it.
