More male nurses in the works

More males are enrolling in nursing courses, a New South Wales tertiary education provider has stated.

Glenys Wensor, head teacher of nursing at the Northern Sydney Institute said, "We've seen a steady increase in men wanting to take up the occupation." Last year, the institute awarded four out of their 10 nursing scholarships to young men.

She said men can bring unique skills and perspectives to the job and added some men don’t realise the responsibility and importance of a nurse’s role in a hospital or care facility.
