Parkinson’s blood test may detect Alzheimer’s, too: professor

Australian researchers have developed a blood test that may soon be used to detect Parkinson’s disease, as well as a range of other neurodegenerative disorders.

La Trobe professor of microbiology Paul Fisher said so far, the blood test has been trialled on a small test group of 38 people, including 29 with Parkinson's and a control group of nine, with great reliability.

Nursing Review sat down with Fisher to discuss the test, its potential application for diseases such as Alzheimer’s and where the research will head next.
