Campaign encourages public to #sharethatyoucare about nurses

An aged care provider has launched a campaign to encourage the public to give their thanks to nurses for all they do, following research that revealed fewer than one-in-three people can name a nurse who has cared for them or a loved one.

The study, carried out by The Whiddon Group, found that in contrast, more than twice as many people can name a doctor that has treated them or a loved one.

Whiddon said the findings were the driving force behind its new Share That You Care social media campaign, launched Friday 12 May 2017 to coincide with International Nurses Day.

Laurie Leigh, deputy chief executive at The Whiddon Group, said nurses continually go above and beyond and do not expect any special recognition for the outstanding work that they do. “Nurses are not only at the heart of our care service but also our communities as a whole, and we would be lost without them,” Leigh said.

The two-week social media campaign encourages people to make an online declaration of their thanks and, in turn, raise awareness of the work nurses do.

Those interested are being asked to post their image on Instagram saying thank you to a nurse with the hashtag #ShareThatYouCare or to get involved by spreading the word about the campaign.

Residents and staff at Whiddon will also thank nurses at their homes, local hospitals and health services by creating and sending Share That You Care hampers. Each care hamper will contain personalised and handmade gifts from Whiddon residents, along with contributions from companies Boost Juice, Chobani, Bakers Delight and SPC ProVital.
