Nurses brush up on role in voluntary assisted dying

Victoria will see voluntary assisted dying become law in June next year and nurses are still working through what the change in legislation means for their practice.

And that's exactly what the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) unpacked at a recent event at Monash Medical Centre.

The event walked nurses through the current legal context of voluntary assisted dying within the Victorian healthcare system, explored the related ethical issues and unpacked nurses’ roles in voluntary assisted dying and the potential implications for practice.

In an interview with Nursing Review, adjunct associate professor Jenny Newton talked about the themes discussed at the event and ethical debates that surround the issue.
