A group of aged care residents have ditched pants, tops and bras for a Calendar Girls-style project.
Aged 75 to 99, the residents were keen to put together a calendar in time for Christmas featuring some discreet nude photographs.
And, much like Helen Mirren and Julie Walters did in the 2003 British comedy, the Lifeview cast used props like magazines, cooking equipment and pot plants to cover up.
The idea came from the residents, who suggested it at the regular recreation meeting, and the Lifeview team was quickly on board.
Chief executive Madeline Gall said: “Why not?”
“The residents have had an absolute ball. It was something that they wanted to do and if we’re truly about person-centred care and we’re truly about making people’s days and bringing joy to the elderly then why wouldn’t you do it?”
Gall said the calendar demonstrates you are never too old to experience something new.
“We truly believe in giving residents the opportunity to live out their ideas and for this photoshoot they really gave it their all,” Gall said. “There was nothing holding them back, or in for that matter.”
Gall added it was important to get the right external creative team of board and found it in the crew from The Studio Melbourne, who worked with internal sales and marketing, and social support staff to get the project off the ground.
Lifeview resident and calendar model Jackie Slater said the two-day photoshoot was one of the best times she’s have had in her 89 years. “We had so much fun – it was hilarious.”
The calendar is on sale from today and can be purchased in each Lifeview home or online.
