Assistance encourages stronger workforce

Applications now open for scholarships.

Nursing students, nurses and midwives are being encouraged to apply for an Australian government scholarship under the newly consolidated Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship Support Scheme (NAHSSS).

The NAHSSS program incorporates five different scholarship types, offering financial support for undergraduate nursing students, nurses and midwives undertaking further study or professional development activities.

Scholarships currently open for applications under the NAHSSS program are:

Undergraduate scholarships. Valued at up to $30,000 for fulltime study over three years, these scholarships support study towards an undergraduate and entry level nursing qualification.

Postgraduate scholarships. Worth up to $30,000 for up to two years of fulltime study, the scholarships are for nurses and midwives undertaking study towards a graduate certificate, graduate diploma or masters program. Scholarships of up to $10 000 are also available for nurses and midwives working in an Aboriginal medical service to undertake postgraduate studies.

Continuing professional development scholarships. Funding of $1500 is available to successful applicants to undertake continuing professional development activities directly relevant to the applicant’s work. Up to $6000 over two years is available for people studying to re-enter the nursing or midwifery workforce.

Applications close 1 October. Go to www.rcna.org.au/scholarships/government_scholarships or call 1800 117 262
