Congratulations

A number of nurses received special honours during the Australia Day 2011 celebrations.

Member of the Order of Australia (AM)
Professor Jill White, Dean of the Sydney Nursing School, The University of Sydney, for service to nursing and midwifery through the design and implementation of academic programs, through contributions to government health committees and taskforces, and to professional organisations.

Nurses who were awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)
Sister Nora Maria Cunningham, Vic: For service to the community through a range of health and social welfare organisations, and to the Sisters of Charity.

Elizabeth Leighton Flint, SA: For service to the community of the Gawler region through women’s, church and health care organisations.

Sister Mary Teresa Kelly, WA: For service to nursing, particularly in the field of stomal therapy, and to the development of palliative care support in the Bunbury region.

Cecilia (Celia) Drysdale Leary, NSW: For service to nursing, particularly in the area of day surgery.

Associate Professor Margaret Joy McGill, NSW: For service to community health in the field of diabetes management and education, particularly in support of children and adolescents, and to the establishment of medical education programs in Australia and overseas.
