Vix Vizion helps keep dementia patients safe and secure using advanced monitoring technology

As reported by the media, cases of dementia patients going missing from Aged Care facilities happens on a regular basis and is on the rise.

These incidents result in a lot of emergency service and aged care staff being utilised in the search and causes great stress for the concerned family and friends.

In extreme circumstances, the patient may go missing for several days and may even die as a consequence.

To help address this growing problem, aged care operators can use monitoring technology (based on facial recognition) to provide real time alerts to staff if a dementia patient is detected at an entry or exit point, attempting to leave the facility.

These alerts can be sent electronically to workstations as text messages, emails or to staff pagers. This allows the Aged Care operators ample time to locate the patient and guide them back into the facility.

Vix Vizion, an Australian Intelligent Video Analytics and Facial Recognition Technology company, has been working with several Australian aged care providers to implement this solution and help improve the safety of residents in their facilities.

Our Dementia Patient Safety solution gives peace of mind to Aged Care staff and family members by ensuring the dementia patients are monitored throughout the facility without placing any onerous restrictions on the patent's freedom of movement.

When a staff member needs to know where the patient is, a quick search of camera video streams can quickly locate their last location.

The Vix Vizion solution can also make use of existing Video Management Systems and infrastructure deployed within the facility or operate as a standalone solution.

Privacy and personal information are a key requirement when using facial recognition systems.

The Vix Vizion solution only looks for dementia patients who have been enrolled in the database. All other faces which have been detected can be automatically erased by the solution.

Operators can configure these settings and control who has access to the database.

The Vix Vizion Dementia Patient safety solution also assists aged care companies achieve risk management goals and meet an ever-increasing compliance requirement.

The solution can be extended for other aged care use cases such as alerting aged care staff if persons of interest, who may have been violent or aggressive, return to a facility.
