The role of the faculty advisory committees

It has been over 12 months since the inception of the first RCNA faculty, and RCNA faculties have come a long way since then.

RCNA’s faculty advisory committees (FACs) have been a key contributing factor to the success of the faculties.

The current three FACs comprise of eight to 10 RCNA Fellows or Members, all experts in their chosen area of professional focus: rural nursing and midwifery, community and primary health care, and health and wellbeing in ageing.

Every quarter, senior national office staff meet with each FAC via teleconference. The FACs report on stakeholder views, including those of faculty members, on contemporary issues relevant to their faculty focus.

To ensure all RCNA faculty members are able to actively engage with activities that are taking place within the FACs, the following procedures have been established through the faculty pages of the RCNA website:

1. The FAC 2010 meeting schedule is available for members to view or download.
2. Faculty members are able to submit agenda items for FAC meetings.
3. FAC meeting agendas and minutes are available to view or download.
5. Important documents considered by the FAC members, such as research papers and government reports are available for download, and member feedback is encouraged.
Staff at RCNA are hopeful that these measures will ensure transparent and timely communication channels are maintained between National Office, FAC members and the general faculty membership base.
