Passing of first reform bill is just one step in the right direction: podcast

Just shy of 11 weeks in office, the Albanese government's first piece of legislation to pass both houses of parliament was one of aged care's major reform bills.

The Royal Commission response bill, bringing into effect 14 of the report's recommendations, was heartily welcomed by the National Australian Research Institute (NARI).

"The implementation of this legislation will strengthen the aged care sector," said co-acting director Associate Professor Frances Batchelor.

"But it's just one step in ensuring that Australia has an aged care system that can deliver high quality, safe, and person-centred care.

"We need to continue with reforms that strengthen aged care workers and continue to improve quality of care for older Australians."

Batchelor joined Aged Care Insite in a conversation about what the implementation of these reform bills will mean for the troubled sector and what steps she's hoping are next in line.
