Dental health is an important component of health care and primary health care programs. Despite the pervasiveness of tooth decay and gum disease in Australia, the critical state of dental health often flies under the health radar.
DHSV is responsible for delivering publicly funded oral health care to the eligible population in Victoria. DHSV services are delivered through community-based health facilities and the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne (RDHM). The RDHM provides elective and emergency general and specialist oral health care.
Deidre Mackechnie, Chief Learning Officer, DHSV, says that RCNA’s strong focus on professional development was one of the most attractive advantages of a corporate partnership with RCNA, as well as the opportunity to build the profile of DHSV and the dental assistant profession.
For Deidre, linking oral health services and dental assistants in with the peak professional nursing organisation in Australia is a valuable opportunity for this often overlooked constituent of health care services, and DSVH looks forward to strengthening links with the Australian Government, media and other health professionals through partnership with RCNA.
