Improving adult health

Immunisation grants program launches to improve adult health in local Australian communities.

GlaxoSmithKline has launched its fourth Adult Immunisation Grants program for healthcare professionals working in immunisation. The grants are designed to support innovation in adult immunisation by improving the awareness of, access to, and implementation of adult immunisation.

Adult vaccination can be challenging for immunisers as the infrastructure and incentives that support childhood immunisation in Australia are not always available for adults. Finding opportunities to discuss the importance of immunisation with adult patients is also not always easy.

Four grants of $20,000 will be awarded in the 2011 program. Immunisation proposals should be innovative judging criteria: improving awareness/education of the benefits of immunisation, improving immunisation practice and/or immunisation management; and improving access to immunisation in a specific disease area or patient population.

Grant proposals must be targeted at those over 18 years of age and address community needs that are not met by the National Immunisation Program.

Applications close September 12. Go to www.gsk.com.au/adultimmunisationgrants
