Peak concerns over capped home care fees: podcast

The industry peak body has called on the government to restructure My Aged Care as it considers a blanket cap on home care fees.

During the election, Labor made a commitment to cap home care fees after the Royal Commission's 2021 report found that over half of packages were being eaten up by 'administration and management fees'.

However, the Aged Care Amendment Bill 2022, which passed on 1 September, granted the government power to cap any home care fees it deemed fit.

Aged & Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA) general manager of policy and advocacy Tim Hicks said this will severely limit consumers' choices.

"It's very difficult. There's genuine frustration among providers," he said.

"You put in your location and get a large list with very little to distinguish them."

Tune into Aged Care Insite's conversation with Hicks about how restrictive capping of home care fees may endanger consumer rights and impact providers ability to make ends meet.
