ACCPA chief flags progress on nutrition

Latest food and nutritional spending data in residential aged care indicates a significant improvement compared to 2021, aged care peak chief Tom Symondson says.

The Aged & Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA)'s response comes after a Food and Nutrition 2021-21 report found that 75 per cent of Australia's aged care providers are spending over $10 a day on food per resident each day.

Total expenditure on food also increased each quarter over 2022 from $13.94 to $15.00.

Earlier last month, aged care providers faced scrutiny after multiple reports revealed more than 1,500 homes spent less than $10 per resident per day on food between June and December 2021.

"I'm really excited by the positive signs I'm seeing while visiting facilities – we're doing much better," Symondson says.
