A new 24-hour donation drive has been announced by The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) so Australians can give back to the nurses who've led from the front during a year beset by bushfires and a deadly pandemic.
The inaugural It’s Time for Nurses 24-hour Giving Day starts on Wednesday, 2 December, with proceeds going towards supporting nurses through scholarship opportunities. The funds will allow nurses to keep investing in their education so that they can continue to provide quality care to our communities.
“I know just how challenging 2020 has been for all Australians. Nurses are the clinical profession most likely to live in the communities they serve. Donating to the ACN Foundation’s 'It’s Time for Nurses' Giving Day on 2 December will significantly support a nurse to personally and professionally develop, and in turn is an investment in local communities," said ACN chief executive Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward.
"People keep asking me how they can say thank you to nurses and this is the perfect opportunity as all donations on this day will directly support Australian nurses.”
The money raised during the 24-hour period will go towards 50 nurses who will each have access of up to $5000 as part of a new scholarship being launched in 2021.
The ACN said it is imperative that nurses get the opportunity to further education to help them deliver the best level of healthcare possible, and this scholarship will go some way to helping those who miss out every year due to lack of funds.
“I know the difference a scholarship can make to so many nurses. Scholarship recipients want to continue to grow and further their contribution to our community and investing in their education and professional development is an investment in our healthcare system,” Ward said.
