‘Akin to a hotel’ – one resident’s experience of life in an aged care home: podcast

Alwyn Gordon has found that she doesn't mind living in residential aged care.

After a stroke, Alwyn was told she needed to move into a home and, at first, didn't like the idea of leaving her house behind.

Now, she enjoys regular trips to play scrabble and cards with friends, and says that living in an aged care home feels "akin to a hotel".

"I don't have to do any cooking. I don't have to go out shopping and I don't have to do any cleaning or laundry if I don’t want to," Alwyn says.

"It's a life of luxury!"

Aged Care Insite spoke with Alwyn about the ups and downs of living in care, such as loneliness, group activities, declining health and her life since arriving in Australia from Singapore 40 years ago.
