Man faces court charged with murdering pregnant nurse Janet Dweh at her home

A 50-year-old Perth man has faced court charged with murdering a nurse just weeks before she was due to give birth to her fourth child.

Janet Dweh, 36, was found dead in her home on Mataro Drive in Dayton by a family member on October 4.

Police allege she was killed the day before.

Homicide Squad detectives charged Ellenbrook man Hassan W Jabbie with murder and he appeared in Midland Magistrates Court on Friday.

He was remanded in custody to face Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The accused killer is believed to be someone close to Dweh.

Dweh, who came to Australia from war-torn Liberia, was an aged care nurse who had just finished her last shift before going on maternity leave at the time of her death, according to a family member.

Dozens of Dweh’s family and friends gathered outside court on Friday, with some holding signs and others crying.

Her brother, Darius Dweh, told reporters that their community had been enduring sleepless nights since Ms Dweh was found dead.

“The community has been in fear. There have been dark clouds. People barely get an hour’s sleep,” he said.

A shaken and emotional woman, holding a “#Justice4Janet sign, told reporters: “We need justice for our sister”.

Another woman said, through tears, that their community was “broken”.

Dweh leaves behind three children aged 15, 10 and seven.

There was a strong police presence at her home after her death, with forensic investigators scouring the property for evidence.

Police also searched a nearby park.

On Friday, police were seen searching bushland about 150m from the accused man’s home.
