How academics pave the way for healthy ageing: podcast

An annual forum has highlighted the crucial role of research in creating new ways to achieve healthy ageing.

The 'Healthy Ageing Forum' held last November is a yearly initiative of the University of the Sunshine Coast and the local council to educate people of all ages about staying fit and happy as we age.

Experts and academics spoke on topics related to healthy ageing, including challenging your mind, following creative pursuits and trying new ways to exercise.

Associate professor Christopher Askew from the School of Health and Behavioural Sciences said sharing information helps people understand why lifestyle changes are essential to boost our health as we age.

"Through research, we can find different ways to achieve healthy ageing," Professor Askew said.

"For example, there's a real trend on intergenerational approaches, which is absolutely fascinating."

Aged Care Insite spoke with Askew about finding joy and worrying less as we get older and how doing novel things that challenge us are great ways to promote healthy ageing.
