Nedlands: police investigate woman’s death at Regis facility

Police are investigating the death of an elderly woman at a Regis aged care facility in Perth’s leafy western suburbs.

The 89-year-old woman died at the Nedlands facility on Tuesday.

“Major crime division officers are making inquiries to determine the cause and circumstances of her death,” police said in a statement on Friday.

It comes after police investigated the deaths of two men, including 94-year-old Dik Lee, at the facility amid allegations of abuse.

That probe was concluded in January and no charges were laid.

“No evidence of criminality has been found,” police said at the time.

In a statement on February 22, Regis said its own ongoing investigation had not found any “malicious intent” in the way staff interacted with residents.

“While the majority of the allegations, including physical abuse and sexual misconduct, have not been substantiated, the investigating team has found there are some service areas that can be improved,” Regis said.

“Regis acknowledges and sincerely regrets that some residents received care and services below our expected standards.”
