Fighting age discrimination at work: podcast

One in five older Australians are experiencing age discrimination in the workplace affecting their mental health and creating serious obstacles in finding a new jobs.

Associate Professor Alysia Blackman from the University of Melbourne says ageism and stereotyping can impact people as young as 50.

"Older people may be excluded from training or meetings because there are assumptions they can't learn new things, particularly around technology," she says.

"Or getting a job can be extremely difficult for them because recruitment can tell their age from their resume."

She emphasises a real need to challenge age discrimination in the workplace and reconsider the notion of the ideal employee.

Join Aged Care Insite in a conversation with Alysia on how we should fundamentally change Australia's work environment for older people.
