Rumours FWC won’t decide on pay rise until next year: podcast

Aged care providers are voicing concerns the fair work umpire's verdict on increasing staff's wages will come too late.

On August 17th, the federal government handed in its submission to the Fair Work Commission (FWC), pushing for a 'meaningful and significant pay rise for aged care workers'.

But CEO of aged care provider Whiddon, Chris Mamarelis, says he's heard the FWC's ruling won't be decided until later next year.

"I hope that's incorrect, because we need this to come through quickly to the people on the ground," Chris says.

"I believe it can take some time for them to work through the process, and if that's the case, that worries me."

Chris joined Aged Care Insite to discuss the urgent need for a pay rise for the sector's hardworking and understaffed personnel.

    For God’s sake!

Why would it take months or a year to approve a wage rise for nursing home carers?
The liberals didn’t care but Labor has proven to get things done quickly.
Don’t let this drag on unnecessarily.

  2. Why FWC need more than one year to make this decision? If Aged care worker efficiency as them what will happen in Aged care facility? Aged care staff work so hard. They don’t have time to waste but FWC can?
