‘Never too old for a fabulous day out’: Uniting residents conquer Sydney Tower Eye

Six residents from aged care provider Uniting NSW.ACT braved the heights of the Sydney Tower Eye last Monday.
Joined by four carers, the group looked onto the emerald city in the 360-degree observation deck and then ventured on the open-air glass-floored skywalk 268m above ground level.
Rugby-lover, 84-year-old Edward âEddieâ Edwards said he had fully embraced the heart-pounding experience in Sydney's tallest tower.
âWe live only once â letâs welcome every opportunity with open arms,â Eddie said.
Among the team was Marlene Corbitt, 91, who enjoys art, music and swimming in her spare time.
Although Marlene is no stranger to adventurous outdoor activities, she conceded the skywalk was âquite challenging.â
âIt was so different from all the other activities Iâve done before, and I have quite the sense of achievement,â Marlene said.
âI live to have fun. Thatâs why this was the best opportunity to grab."
79-year-old Phaik Noeh from Malaysia said the skywalk should be âon everyoneâs bucket list.â
Phaik, who is always up for a good book and a stimulating conversation, shared he never thought heâd be found up this high in the air.
âIt was never on my bucket list, but what an experience!
âI nearly missed it, but now I think everyone should have done this at least once.â
Uniting NSW.ACT is one of Australiaâs largest not-for-profit aged care organisations employing over 10,500 staff members that deliver care to 120,000 older people across the two states.
The provider had invited the six residents from The Marion in Leichhardt and Wesley Gardens in Belrose to join them on the experience of a lifetime.
The groupâs guide, Maria Lopez, said the adventure was a âwonderful example of adventure-seekers seizing opportunity and overcoming nerves.â
âYouâre never too old for a fabulous day out, and it was such a pleasure to share the best views of Sydney with some of these inspiring people today,â Maria said.
